The interdisciplinary art project “Maria and Witkacy” is a homage to Maria Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska and Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz, two flamboyant personalities of the Polish inter-war art world. Their individual pursuit of intellectual stimulation and civil liberty will be explored from a contemporary standpoint by participating artists, using video, dance performance and a portrait exhibition. The lives of “Maria and Witkacy” will serve as a metaphor for the artist’s existential task to find balance between self-expression, social change and self-exploitation in a crisis-prone society.
The event is presented by agitPolska e.V. and will take place in the context of the “48h Neuklölln” art festival. Concept: Berlin-Warszawa @rtpress, support: German Federal Government for culture and media, partner: Polish Institute Berlin.
